Labor Day is right around the corner and a lot of us are asking how we can use that day off most wisely. As always, there are so many projects around the house that need getting done. So how do you know which ones you need to get done first? Well, we're here to help.
1. Replace Your A/C Filter
Chances are, you haven't changed that filter since your annual spring cleaning, if at all. Well, it's best to change it every six months, so this would be the perfect time to tackle this five-minute project. A clean filter keeps your home's air clean, obviously, but it also keeps your A/C unit from working overtime; a dirty filter blocks air from getting into the unit, so your unit has to work harder to get the same amount of air cooled and sent through your home. I don't have a tutorial for you, because it's as simple as opening up the return air vent and switching out the old filter with a new one.
2. Paint The Front Door
The cooling weather makes this a perfect time to paint your door. We love ric...
With a new season comes new trends. It's the circle of life. And while not all trends are good -- we can all agree that the fried hair of the '80s is one that should never come back -- most can help us in finding or defining our own unique style. So while it's still August, we wanted to share six fall trends that we not only love, but that we hope will be here for a long while so that you have an opportunity to incorporate them into your autumn wedding.
1. Geode Cakes
We all know that cakes are such a big statement at a wedding. Well, get ready for the biggest statement yet! These cakes can be made as unique as any other decoration. Natural geodes are some of the most diverse physical phenomena, so there is truly no limit to what your design can look like.
2. Metallic Madness
Fall has such gorgeous colors, and metallics like gold, bronze, and copper are such incredible accents to those colors. We've seen sequined tablecloths, metallic calligraphy, gold embossed napkins, glittering br...
If you're anything like me, you hate cleaning the house. It's such a pain and certain tasks, like sweeping, can take a toll on your back. But it is a necessary evil because you truly never know when you'll have company over. Well, here are a few things that we suggest to keep your home clean with minimal effort.
This is such an easy thing to do that makes a huge impact. Whether you want to use some of those disinfecting wipes or a spray and a Magic Eraser, it should only take a half hour at most. Your morning coffee splatters, the dinner you cooked sloshed over the pan, the oatmeal you heated up this morning exploded in the microwave, your kids dripped toothpaste on the bathroom counter (yes, you need to wipe that down, too); the messes will only build up as the week progresses and doing this daily will take some serious cleaning anxiety out of your weekly cleaning day.
As you may have heard in the news, scientists have found a new color. The scientists discovered the incredible, vivid blue by accident, while looking for new compounds for applications in electronics. Now, you might think, "Well, yes I've seen this color before," and that's partly. You've seen cobalt and electric blue, and you've probably seen it or something close in mixed paints and such, but this is a natural color. That means that no synthetic materials, like those used in paints, were used to create it. They mixed the elements Yttrium, Indium, and Manganese and out came YInMn Blue (as they've decided to name it). You can read more about how the color came out from these three elements here.
What's interesting is that they made this discovery in 2009, but it's only now reaching the news because the color's discoverers have reached a licensing agreement with The Shepherd Color Company to create a paint color. One thing of interest about this color...
